Matthew Diptych | |
| | Description: | These two pieces of calligraphic art are in the form of a diptych; interdependent halves of one artwork. The words, from Matthew 28:19-20, are written in flourished black letter script on heavy watercolor paper. The initial decorated letters are covered in 23-karat gold leaf layered on a base made from a mediaeval recipe and painted with opaque watercolors. They were framed by the artist and given as a gift to Friendship Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, where they are on display in the narthex. | | Text: | Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. |
